The ideal CNA candidate will:

  • Be a Certified Nurse Aide
  • Possess a high school diploma, this is preferred
  • Have a strong comprehension of the English language which includes reading, writing and speaking fluently

 General Overview of our Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Role:

The Certified Nurse Aide is an important member of the Nursing Team in assisting and supervising residents in all activities of daily living. This individual motivates the resident to participate in ADLs to improve and maintain their independence and self-esteem. The CNA must always have a friendly and compassionate attitude. This individual should develop a close and trusting relationship with all residents entrusted to his/her care and have sufficient understanding to anticipate their needs, thereby making the residents' stay at Cobble Hill as pleasant and comfortable as possible.


The CNA's performance will be evaluated in relation to the ability to demonstrate tasks or behaviors completely and with efficiency. The underlying principle of clinical practice is the safety of the resident, quality of care and compliance with policies and procedures. Therefore, CNAs are evaluated throughout the year by their managers in relation to safe practice and compliance with the plan of care.


The CNA duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Reports to duty in a timely manner and ends their shift as per policy and procedure of the facility
  • Completes assignment and duties in a timely manner
  • Maintains good attendance throughout the year
  • Complies with accepted ethical conduct and professional Standards of Nursing Practice specific to nursing role
  • Seeks opportunity and demonstrates motivation to improve their knowledge and skills
  • Complies with facility policies and procedures
  • Applies knowledge of clinical skills within the CNA scope of practice
  • Follows the plan of care for assigned residents based on CNA's nursing instructions
  • Identifies any changes in the resident's condition and reports to the nurse
  • Acknowledges and responds to the resident's calls
  • Displays behaviors both verbal and non-verbal that are appropriate for clinical settings
  • Organizes equipment and materials to minimize time and effort
  • Works as a team member with other coworkers
  • Demonstrates appropriate communication skills with the team members
  • Demonstrates respect for client confidentiality
  • Collaborates with resident, families and members of the healthcare team when planning, implementing and evaluating care
  • Develops and maintains good relationships and customer service with the residents and their families
  • Demonstrates simple problem-solving skills
  • Assists residents who wish to attend religious services and facilitates this process on the floor
  • Participates in resident teaching within the CNA role
  • Documents completely and accurately all ADLs utilizing company systems and technology
  • Verbalizes understanding and demonstrates ability to provide "Comfort Care":
    • Recognizes different facial expression, behaviors, anticipate patients' needs and provides them with the required assistance
    • Knowledgeable about the individual's important life events, daily routines, likes and dislikes
    • Provides comfort to the resident when needed
    • Uses a person-centered approach when planning the resident's care
    • Integrates knowledge of the residents' cultural background in daily care
  • Verbalizes understanding on the importance of educating and supporting the resident's family
  • Advocates for residents' rights through supervision of care and provision of services and reports resident rights violations to nursing administration in a timely manner
  • Provides safe environment and demonstrate "Safe Practice"
    • Demonstrates and implements environmental safety measures.
    • Performs rounds ,observes and supervises the residents
    • Reviews CNA's instruction on the computer prior to providing care
    • Demonstrates safe and proper use of transfer and other equipment.
    • Reports resident incidents/occurrences to appropriate personnel.
  • Ensures the resident's unit is clean and neat, the beds are made, personal equipment is cleaned, labeled and bagged as well as avoiding any hoarding in the resident's room
  • Ensures all the residents' cloths are clean, labeled with the resident's name and are place neatly in the resident's closet
  • Ensure bedside is clean from open food and assists residents in labeling food in containers and storing in the dining room refrigerator
  • Follows infection control guidelines when providing care for residents on isolation
  • Provides and follows the plan of care for residents on rehabilitation ambulation, R.O.M turning and positioning, etc.
  • Provides and follows the plan of care for end of life care as per facility policies and procedures
  • Provides care to the residents as instructed and under the direction of the nursing staff
  • Individualizes care considering residents who have impairments including but not limited to visual, auditory or speech impairments
  • Performs techniques of preparing, serving, and feeding residents
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and implements measures in prevention of pressure ulcers turning and positioning, special equipment, special mattress, incontinence care, etc.
  • Demonstrates resident hygiene care and ADL's bathing, toileting, feeding, transferring, grooming, mouth care, nail care, etc.
  • Demonstrates the use of elimination devices and procedures toileting, incontinence care, using bedpan, using urinal, etc.
  • Collects specimens correctly as per facility protocols
  • Performs vital signs, height and weight measures
  • Performs clinical competencies as per nursing standards and as per facility policies and procedures that include, but are not limited to:


  • Hand washing
  • Weights
  • Donning and removing PPE
  • Transfers manually
  • Transfer mechanically
  • Heimlich maneuver
  • Restraints
  • Ambulation
  • Range of motion
  • V/S monitoring
  • Bathing
  • Oral care
  • Eye care
  • Nail care

  • Feeding
  • Meal time/dining room responsibilities
  • Turning and positioning
  • Skin care
  • Perineal/incontinence care
