What you will do:

  1. Weekly prepare regular payroll. That is;
    1. Check payroll information submitted by departments for accuracy
    2. Calculate payments based on rates of pay and deductions
    3. Make deductions for taxes, health insurance, vacation, holidays, sick days, transit checks, etc.
    4. Check for accuracy and verify overtime payments against departmental information
    5. Run checks and distribute same to authorized department personnel
  2. Check and prepare payroll data for transmission to the general ledger.
  3. Maintain accurate records of benefit time accrued as well as benefit time paid employees.
  4. Once annually calculate and enter into the computer the new payroll cycle, such as, deductions, pay dates, etc.
  5. Calculate and prepare withholding tax information forms, request payment and ensure the timely deposit of taxes.
  6. Prepare various monthly reports regarding deductions made such as PAC, garnishees, credit unions, etc.
  7. Prepare purchase orders requesting checks be drawn by Accounts Payable for the various payroll deductions made.
  8. Review time clock information for incorrect punches as well as add and delete employees.
  9. Prepare various summaries and reports for department heads regarding patterns of lateness, absenteeism, overtime, etc.
  10. Report various disability payments information to IRS for appropriate taxing.
  11. Respond to outside correspondence regarding garnishments and levies.
  12. Consult with staff on a day to day basis regarding benefit deductions, calculations, overtime payments and any other payroll questions they may have.
  13. Verify time clock and other time recording systems of Agency personnel and others paid on 1099 forms and authorize payments against invoices received by Accounts Payable.
  14. Regularly prepare various payroll related reports regarding benefits, deductions, taxes, overtime, etc. Also prepare special reports requested by Administration or the Chief Financial Officer.
  15. Perform other related duties, or any other miscellaneous duties as requested

What you offer:

  • Previous payroll experience required, previous people operations experience preferred 
  • You're familiar with working within an 1199 union environment, preferred 
  • You've worked with Reliable/Charts and SmartLinx, preferred 
  • Leadership skills and mentorship ability - you love to help people learn and grow!
  • You never shy away from a challenge and welcome the opportunity to solve tough problems
  • You can dive in to perform various jobs and tasks as needed
