Shift: Full Time. Available shifts are 5AM to 1PM / 10AM to 6PM

About The Position:

The Dietary Cook is responsible for all hot and cold main entre production, modified consistencies and specials utilizing standardized recipes, approved food handling and sanitation techniques for residents and employees. In this position, you will prepare items and load them on the steam table. You will work with the 2nd cook to complete days' menu items and consistently maintain sanitation of cooking surfaces and equipment. In this position, you will also assist with preparation for the following day as well as assist the chef with ordering and receiving. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing meals according to standardized recipes, menu and patient preference
  • Accurately measuring and or weighing ingredients according to instructions in recipes and adjusting recipes when necessary
  • Preparing food utilizing proper food handling techniques
  • Responding to calls from units and is responsive to needs of residents
  • Cleaning tray cart, food trucks, and other used equipment
  • Adhering to safety guidelines regarding covering, labeling, dating, and processing raw and cooked food
  • Assisting with ordering and receiving food and supplies
  • Maintaining a clean, sanitized, and uncluttered work area
  • Reporting any defective equipment to the supervisor

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Must be a High School graduate or have High School Equivalency Diploma
  • Must be fluent in English (speaking, reading, & writing)
  • Knowledgeable of therapeutic diets and some previous experience in the Dietary Department of Health Care Facility is desired
  • ServSafe certified and NYCDOH Food Handlers Certificate completed
  • Knowledge of food sanitation and safety procedures
  • Strong customer service experience and ability to maintain confidentiality and professionally interact with residents, families, visitors, and other co-workers
  • Must be able to speak clearly and listen attentively to employees, dining room staff and guests
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for periods up to four (4) hours in length. Must have the ability to lift pots, pans, etc. up to 40 pound
